HANDS ON HEALING INSTITUTE

SCHOOL OF MASSAGE

Who we are; what we stand for.

Hands on Healing Institute is a holistic school teaching the connection of the mind, body and spirit to facilitate healing.  We believe that just learning the technique of massage is not enough to facilitate healing.

Throughout the MT250 Program you will be taught how to connect to and help facilitate healing in your client through:

                   Proper touch

                   Grounding

                   Centering

                   Being totally present

                   Setting the right intention

You will be learning from teachers who practice what they teach and love sharing their knowledge.

We have created a loving, safe environment for you to learn and grow…spiritually, emotionally and physically.  You will learn much about yourself, your bodies and your emotions.  Our students tell us that their experience at HHI is life changing. I often have heard our therapists say they feel as good as their clients after giving a massage.

So, if you want a profession that enables you to help others while helping yourself, massage therapy is right for you.

Our continuing education offers many hours of advanced electives so you can add to your certified hours, continue your education and understand more fully the mind, body, spirit connection to facilitate healing.  The choices of what modalities and how many hours of training you wish to accumulate are up to you.

You can help change the world one client at a time.

Blessed be,

Cami Sandroni

Director/Owner

DESCRIPTION

Anatomy & Physiology

A basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology is necessary in learning the theory and practice of therapeutic massage.  Students will study the structures and functions of the human body in order to know when, where, and how to apply massage movements for the most beneficial results.  Students will also study Medical Terminology and Contraindications.  These classes are presented in a way that makes it easy and fun for the student to learn.

Business Practices & Marketing

This class gives students the skills needed to begin and promote a successful massage practice.  Some of the subjects discussed are:  business cards, licensing, places of possible employment, types of clients you would like to work on and much more.  This is the class where all your questions are answered.

Chair Massage

Basic techniques of chair massage and a “15 minute” therapeutic chair massage routine will be demonstrated and practiced.  Simple business ideas for massage will be discussed and students will learn First Aid tips for chair massage. This modality is becoming highly popular and can be offered on-site at offices, health food stores, marathons, schools, and more.

Health/Hygiene & Ethics

This class will give the students the knowledge needed to protect themselves and their clients through health and hygiene.  Ethics of massage therapy will also be studied and discussed.

Music & Massage

This innovative class focuses on an important element of a professional massage therapist’s practice:  the music.  Experience the effects of various genres of music on freedom and style of body movement, fluidity, emotion, and memory.  Learn invaluable information about how music affects our movement and flow.

The Facial Web (Structural Bodywork)

This class introduces a therapeutic model of bodywork, a category referred to as structural bodywork. It introduces the student to a specialized approach to doing deeper massage work. This work can stand alone as modalities like deep tissue, myofascial release and sports massage, or can be integrated into a wellness therapy such as Swedish massage. Benefits can include increased range of motion, ease of movement, improved posture, increased healing of injured areas, and increased athletic performance.

Swedish Massage

Massage therapy is an ancient healing art. This course focuses on the power of touch and how massage affects the mind, body and spirit and helps to facilitate the body’s healing process.  The importance of Health & Hygiene, Indications and Contraindications for massage is also studied.  The emphasis of the practical training is a 50-minute and a 80-minute, full-body Swedish massage routine.  The five basic Swedish strokes are taught:  effleurage, petrissage, friction, vibration and tapotement, and their variations.  Students not only learn the basics of massage; but also are encouraged to develop their own style.  Interrelated topics are also taught during Swedish classes including: meditation as a tool for massage therapists to help in calming the mind and focusing before a session; and breathwork techniques and guided dialogue to expand your capacity for freedom, power, and joy; and, movement awareness, giving you a conscious experience of lasting ease and relaxation in your body. These skills are essential to training and needed in order to help others through massage and deep tissue work.

MT500 PROGRAM

Our MT500 Program (500 hours) is recommended for applying for State Certification as a Massage Therapist through the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC), which allows you to practice in any city in California.  Certification for Massage Therapist will require your taking and passing a test.

To earn a certificate for the MT500 Program you will need to take our MT250 Program and 250 additional hours of electives.  When you have completed the hours and passed any and all applicable tests of the additional 250 hours of electives, you will be issued a MT500 Massage Therapist Certificate of Completion.  Visit the CAMTC website (http://www.camtc.org/) for the steps to take to apply for State Certification.

Although the choice of electives will be up to you, some of the classes we recommend that you take are:

Kinesiology/Anatomy, 55 hours (broken into segments)

Trigger Point I, II & III 14 hrs each

Fascia (Myofascial Release), 245 hours

Deep Tissue, 100 hours (in 25 hour segments)

Chair Massage, 107 hours

Physiology, Not offered at HHI

Pathology,     Not offered at HHI

*Business Practices & Marketing, 8 hours

*Recordkeeping/Tax Returns, 4 hours

*Marketing Skills for Bodyworkers, 3 hours

*These classes will help you to learn how to better run your business, keep your clients happy and work for a spa

After completing the MT250 Program you will have the option to continue taking the additional 250 hours of electives to apply for State Certification as a Massage Therapist or going out and working to earn money to take the additional 250 hours of electives.  You may also want to apply for a Massage Practitioner Certificate from CAMTC and then reapply for Massage Therapist after you have completed your 500 hours.  This way you can still practice in any city in California without obtaining a city license you work in or have clients in.  Please note that the CAMTC will not be offering 250 hour Massage Practitioner Certificates after December 31, 2014 but you will be allowed to renew your certification and continuing to work under your Practitioner Certificate.
